About Me

As a dedicated educator, proven executive leader, and proud parent of a rising 8th grader in the district, I am deeply committed to the success and well-being of all San Dieguito Union High School District students.

Over my 27-year career in public education, I have dedicated myself to revolutionizing learning approaches and modernizing school capabilities. My foundational experience spans successful roles as a teacher and principal in elementary, middle, and high schools across Orange and Los Angeles Counties, giving me a comprehensive understanding of student and educator needs at every grade level.

During my tenure as Assistant Superintendent in the Encinitas Union School District, I proudly led North County Coastal schools in the adoption of cutting-edge digital learning. I also championed a whole-child approach by establishing a nationally recognized health and wellness curriculum that integrated student yoga, wellness, arts, and culinary programs.

Currently serving as Superintendent of Cajon Valley Union School District since 2013, and holding a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from UCLA, I have the executive expertise to foster trust, ensure fiscal responsibility, elevate student achievement, and make sound decisions for our community. Please describe your qualifications for public office.

I bring a unique combination of twenty-seven years of hands-on experience in public education and the personal perspective of a parent with a child in the district. Over my career, I have served at virtually every level of our educational system. I started as a classroom teacher, advanced to principal in elementary, middle, and high schools, and eventually moved into executive leadership as Assistant Superintendent in Encinitas and Superintendent of Cajon Valley Union School District, where I have served since 2013. That progression gives me a real, ground-level understanding of how decisions made at the board table actually impact daily classroom instruction and campus life.

Beyond my administrative career, holding a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy from UCLA has provided me with a strong foundation in school finance, strategic planning, and governance. I have successfully managed large district budgets, secured millions in external grants to enhance learning without straining local funds, and led major digital and health-and-wellness initiatives right here in North County Coastal schools. My executive background, combined with my daily commitment as an SDUHSD parent, gives me the practical expertise and proven vision necessary to serve our community effectively on the board.

Please describe your experience with education and labor issues.

My approach to labor relations and education issues is deeply rooted in my time as a site principal, where I honed my relationship-building skills and learned firsthand the immense value of appreciating, advocating for, and supporting every single employee. Whether working alongside teachers, paraeducators, custodians, or front office staff, I quickly realized that a school cannot truly thrive unless its people feel valued and respected. I carried that core belief into my executive leadership roles, always prioritizing the creation of optimal working conditions and a genuinely positive workplace culture where employees are taken care of.

As Superintendent in Cajon Valley, I am incredibly proud that our intentional focus on supporting our staff has led the district to win the San Diego Top Workplace award multiple times. Throughout my tenure, we have maintained a highly collaborative environment, resulting in consistently amicable and successful contract negotiations with both our classified and certificated labor unions. I believe that when you approach labor partners with transparency and mutual respect, you build long-term trust that ultimately benefits the entire educational community. If elected, I will bring this same collaborative, employee-first mindset to the board table to ensure our district attracts and retains the very best professionals.

What is your professional background? What experience or perspectives will you bring to the board?

I bring 27 years of public education experience as a classroom teacher, K-12 principal, Assistant Superintendent in Encinitas, and Superintendent of Cajon Valley. Holding a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from UCLA, I am also an SDUHSD parent.

I offer a unique dual perspective: executive governance expertise and an active parent’s personal commitment. Having pioneered digital learning, national wellness programs, and multi-year "Top Workplace" cultures, I bring proven fiscal management, collaborative labor relations, and a track record of elevating student achievement. I am equipped to lead SDUHSD with vision, transparency, and collaborative leadership.

What is your connection to the district? Do your children or family members attend a public school?

My connection to SDUHSD is both personal and professional. As former Assistant Superintendent in Encinitas, I collaborated closely with SDUHSD on curriculum, programs, and family communications to ensure seamless student transitions. Through my executive service in North County and current superintendency, I have built strong, lasting relationships with many current SDUHSD employees and community stakeholders.

Most importantly, my daughter is currently an 8th-grade student in the district. Having a child directly impacted by board decisions is central to my desire to serve. As an SDUHSD parent, I am fully invested in ensuring every student thrives.
